"The lunge at the skateboard is not aggression. It is a dog who has never been taught that the world is survivable."
Leash reactivity is the most misunderstood behavior I work with. Owners arrive convinced their shepherd is "dominant" or "broken." What I see is a dog who learned, early and repeatedly, that distance is safety. The lunge bought space. It worked. We rewired that logic — systematically, without punishment, without flooding. The leash becomes a conversation instead of a chain.
What actually changes
Threshold distance shrinks from 40 feet to 6. Dogs who couldn't pass a parked bicycle now walk through farmer's markets. The work takes weeks, not days. It holds.
